The Magphan SMR170 is a cylindrical MRI quality assurance phantom designed for comprehensive system performance evaluation. It enables assessment of geometric fidelity, spatial resolution, low contrast detectability, and signal uniformity.
The housing is a 20 cm acrylic cylinder with a removable end-plate providing access to the interior. The phantom is shipped dry and must be filled by the user with an appropriate MRI solution.
A 10 cm diameter polycarbonate test cube is included, removable without tools. It integrates slice thickness ramps, sensitometry vials (T1/T2), a high-resolution plate (up to 11 line pairs/cm), and a low contrast disk. The cube can be oriented for tests along the x, y, and z axes.
Key QA tests include:
- signal uniformity
- signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)
- geometric distortion (spatial linearity)
- spatial resolution up to 11 line pairs/cm
- low contrast detectability
- patient alignment system verification
- slice thickness accuracy and slice-to-slice continuity
