The Spherical Magphan SMR-100 is an advanced MRI quality assurance phantom, designed to comprehensively assess scanner performance in all planes (axial, coronal, sagittal, oblique). It merges spherical geometry with a cubic test module to test both global and fine imaging characteristics.
The housing comprises two urethane hemispherical shells with an inner diameter of 20 cm, joined by a threaded connecting ring. The test cube (10 cm in diameter) can be removed without tools, facilitating cleaning, maintenance, or large-volume uniformity scans. The test cube is made of 6 mm thick polycarbonate and integrates slice thickness ramps, sensitometry vials (T1 / T2), a high-resolution plate (1 to 11 line pairs/cm), and a low-contrast disk.
These features enable execution of key QA tests:
- spatial signal uniformity
- signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)
- geometric distortion (spatial linearity)
- spatial resolution
- low contrast detectability
- verification of patient alignment systems
- slice thickness accuracy and slice-to-slice continuity
- circular symmetry and spherical geometry
The phantom is shipped dry; users must fill the housing with a suitable MRI solution. It supports standard QA protocols and is suited for acceptance testing, periodic maintenance, and calibration.
