Alderson Radiation Therapy (ART) Phantom

The ART Phantom represents an average adult male (175 cm, 73.5 kg) or female (155 cm, 50 kg). It is horizontally sectioned into 2.5 cm slices, each fitted with bone-, soft-tissue- or lung-equivalent plugs. These can be replaced with TLD or OSLD holders for precise dose measurements.

Soft-tissue coatings ensure smooth interfaces, with cutaways for air cavities in the oronasal pharynges, trachea, and bronchi. Dosimetry holes are drilled in 3 × 3 cm or 1.5 × 1.5 cm grids, with 5 or 7 mm diameters, enabling highly detailed dose distribution mapping.

Skeletons are made from proprietary polymers replicating cortical bone and spongiosa density and attenuation, providing consistency superior to real bone. Lung equivalents are syntactic foam with a density of 0.30 g/cc.

The phantom can be assembled with external or internal fixation for different dosimetry methods (film, TLDs, ion chambers). Optional breast attachments (male and female) are available in multiple volumes, sliced or unsliced, and drilled or undrilled.
